description

In this program, we will first cover prior emancipation proclamations in our nation's history, including the classification of slaves as contraband of war. Next, we will assess the terms of Lincoln's preliminary proclamation of 1862 and the 1863 proclamation. We will cover why they were issued and their impact within the United States and abroad. In so doing, we will also address the primary reason for the North going to war.
