The Panhandle Pedalers Cycling Club has teamed up with Summit Point Motorsports Park to present the first-ever Track Day, where anyone in the community is welcome to bring their bike and ride on the Jefferson Circuit, one of three race tracks in the sprawling facility. The event will be held Saturday, April 17, 2010 (rain date is Sunday, April 18), from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and is free to the public. Local bike shops will provide on-site mechanics, demonstrations and items for sale, and everyone can enjoy the bike show where vintage through modern bikes will be on display.

The Jefferson Circuit is a seven-turn, 1.12-mile (1.80 km) road course. There are straights, turns and switchbacks, along with elevation changes, and best of all, the track will be open to cyclists only so they can experience the safety of open road biking without the threat of automobiles. Mountain bikers are also welcome to explore the off-road trails that begin next to the Jefferson Circuit parking area. For those interested in a different challenge, two extra-curricular, scenic rides that begin and end at the park entrance are being tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
